Learning to Read

Of course learning to read is no piece of cake. A lot of things have to happen to a child before they can manage  the ability to ready— evident things like knowing their letters, recognizing that letters make sounds, picking up on directional patterns, and etc—but there are other things —little things, mostly easy things — that need to happen to help ease the learning to read process.

I will pick up here later—-you know next time, same space. Later

Why Read?

So, anyway, let’s start with reading and how important it is for everyone. I hope my website encourages children to want to learn to read. Actually, I hope my writing encourages children to want to learn to read and then read. Hey, what does encourage children to read? Do we actually know how to do that or the answer to that question? What make you want to read? I read for information a lot of the time. Sometimes, I read for fun—maybe to have an adventure without all the problems that come with having an adventure. It could be a way for me to learn things through the experience of others. Do you think children read or want to read for the same reasons—maybe?

I’ll pick up here—- next time, same space. Later

Blogging Niche

I’ve been thinking about how best to organize this “writing/reading niche.” You know — things I would like to say—or get out into the open about reading and writing. So, being the organized person, that I am (that’s a joke—lol) I thought maybe we could outline a few niche ideas.

But anyways, I want this website to be for parents, children, teachers, and writers. I know, I know—you say “how can we do all that.” (Notice I said “WE.”) Here’s what I was thinking we could incorporate into this blog. See what you think——

1. Encouraging children to want to read (why is it important; what can we do; where/when does reading start; how to foster reading; what’s the writers part in all of this?)

2. Providing connection to reading and fun (fun reading and events/activities that parents, teachers, and children can do together to connect the reading experience with a child’s life experience)

3. Providing an outlet for writers’ discussion (to discuss what goals they have for their writing and how to go about that; what goes into writing that’s read, etc. This one is open discussion. I just want to hear what we all think.)

What d’ya say??

Don’t forget to bookmark this site because I’ll pick up here Monday—- sometime, same space.

Blogging with a Purpose

Like so many other blogs—I do have a purpose. I like to write and I like to read and I think it is a shame that some children have so much trouble doing either of these. Sooooo-this next few weeks I thought I would kind of give you an idea of why I write—and read. And I thought that maybe every couple of months we could introduce new topics that might change the direction of our discussions. Well — these are just ideas for starters. I am a writer that writes to promote reading.

I will be back on Wednesday to pick up where we left off—-you know — sometime, same space. Don’t forget to bookmark this site. We will be having some fun discussions!

Welcome!

Hi and welcome to my blog. First I have a confession–I’m a writer. I enjoy writing—especially young children’s stories. As we move along on this website and blog I will probably have more confessions—ok–another confession—I’m a reader of young children’s books, too. That’s enough confessions for today. Don’t want to put you to sleep. LOL :-)
